The China Study Centre (CSC) at the University of Peshawar has introduced a one-year postgraduate Diploma in Chinese Studies (Sinology), aimed at promoting Chinese studies as a formal academic discipline.

Approved by the University’s Academic Council, the highest authority on academic affairs, the two-semester diploma program will offer a comprehensive curriculum, including courses on Chinese language, society and culture, China’s political and economic development, and its expanding global influence.

The program is scheduled to begin in September 2025 and will be delivered by a mix of faculty from the University of Peshawar, visiting academics, and online guest lecturers from top Chinese universities. According to CSC Director Dr. Noor Sanauddin, the inclusion of international experts will offer students unique exposure to authentic and diverse perspectives on China.

In addition to the diploma, the Centre has also received formal approval to continue offering Chinese language certificate courses, which are already being taught at the university. “We believe that this program will significantly contribute to promoting Chinese culture, language, and society,” said Dr. Sanauddin.

“We also look forward to collaborating with the Chinese Embassy to further strengthen our academic and cultural exchange initiatives, " Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.
