Minister vows safer digital environment for citizens تازترین

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Ataullah Tarar said on Thursday that social media was  awash with fake news after the Sydney attack and that fingers were pointed at Pakistan without any evidence, vowing that the  government will ensure safer digital environment for its citizens.  Speaking at a seminar held on the National Cybersecurity in Islamabad, the minister said that the government was making the cyber security policy more robust. 

He said training and awareness were necessary if one was to protect himself or herself against cyber-attacks.  Tarar informed that cyber security awareness campaign would be launched in the country in order to prevent data leaks.  He further said that the government had taken steps to strengthen the cyber security system for the protection of data.

Tarar expressed the government's commitment to strengthening cybersecurity and ensuring a safer digital environment for citizens. He highlighted the establishment of the country’s first Digital Communication Department. He said we have our own fact check at the ministry of Information and Broadcasting. 

He said the government has also established National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has implemented various mechanisms.  Acknowledging misinformation as one of the most significant challenges of the modern era, the Information Minister stressed the importance of responsible social media usage. He also underscored the need for increased public awareness and training in order to address these issues effectively.
