The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) aircraft engineers’ protest over unpaid salary increments and administrative pressure entered its second day on Wednesday. Amid these protests, PIA’s seven flights were canceled today, while 39 others across the country experienced delays. The strike, organised by the Aircraft Engineers’ Association, comes amid growing dissatisfaction among engineers with the behavior of the national airline’s CEO.
The association’s president stated that the engineers are frustrated with management’s approach and lack of responsiveness to their demands. Meanwhile, the airline administration emphasized that operational disruptions would not be tolerated. A spokesperson confirmed that the airline is committed to maintaining services and has put contingency plans in place to minimize passenger inconvenience. The CEO of the national airline has reportedly issued strict orders against the protesting engineers, warning of disciplinary action. The airline management also reminded staff that the Essential Services Act is in effect, which prohibits strikes or work stoppages in critical services. Any violation, they noted, could result in legal proceedings. He said the aircraft engineers' body held no legal standing, and "the real aim of this movement is to sabotage the airline’s privatisation."
Despite the ongoing protest, airline officials have worked to ensure minimal disruption to essential services, and operations have largely continued. Passengers are advised to check with the airline for the latest updates on flight schedules.
