Caretaker Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) South Punjab, Khalid Ahmad said the South Punjab Secretariat was making all-out efforts to alleviate poverty and improve literacy across the region. While talking to a UNICEF delegation at the South Punjab Secretariat on Wednesday, he said a comprehensive strategy was being devised in collaboration with the district administration for the rehabilitation of people affected in the 11 districts of South Punjab. He added that the rehabilitation process covered the restoration of properties damaged by flash floods as well as the recovery of livestock losses.

Khalid Ahmad said a detailed survey was under way to assess the condition of schools, roads, and streets, which would help initiate welfare activities at the earliest. He further stated that a large segment of the South Punjab population was dependent on agriculture and livestock, and efforts were being made to restore these sectors to their previous state. The Caretaker ACS appreciated the vital role of UNICEF, noting that its projects focused on child and maternal health, along with the provision of clean drinking water, had greatly contributed to improving living standards in the region.
