President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized that a strong agricultural sector is crucial for ensuring food security, sustainable development and prosperity in Pakistan. In his message on Farmers' Day, he said concrete steps are essential for the welfare of farmers and ensuring their better access to modern agricultural technology and markets. The President said water scarcity, climate change and increasing agricultural costs are major challenges for Pakistani farmers. 

Asif Ali Zardari said agriculture is a source of employment for millions of families in Pakistan and an important pillar of national development. The President said hailing from an agricultural family he fully understands the hard work, gains and difficulties of the farmers. Lauding the untiring hard work of the farmers of Pakistan on Farmers' Day, the President said the farmer of Pakistan is the foundation of the country's economy, food self-reliance and rural development.
