Punjab Governor Muhammad Baligh-ur-Rehman said the business community’s role is crucial to the country's socioeconomic development, and commended the businessmen for their contributions to the economic growth. Talking to the president of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Kashif Anwar and his delegation members, the governor said businesses contribute in a number of ways to the socioeconomic development of the country.

The most important is employment generation, which reduces poverty and consequently lowers the crime rate and unrest, besides advancing education, health, and development, which strengthens society. The governor said he would support the LCCI whenever needed. LCCI President Kashif Anwar appreciated the Punjab governor's unrivalled support and invited him to the LCCI to hear opinions from the business sector on trade and economic issues. Kashif Anwar said one of the major factors affecting a country’s economic growth is its exports. He also asked the governor to call a meeting of the LCCI Executive Committee, to which the governor responded positively.
