China’s high-tech manufacturing sector expanded by 9.4 percent in 2025, while production of new-energy vehicles surpassed 16 million units, reflecting continued progress in the country’s industrial upgrading and technological transformation, according to the government work report reviewed at the national legislative session in Beijing.
The report notes that the expansion of high-tech manufacturing highlights the growing role of innovation-driven industries in China’s economic development.
According to the report, advanced manufacturing continued to register faster growth compared with traditional industrial sectors, reflecting the country’s efforts to accelerate industrial modernization and strengthen technological capabilities.
Production of new-energy vehicles maintained strong momentum during the year, surpassing 16 million units as the sector continued expanding rapidly.
The development of new-energy vehicles has been supported by growing demand, advances in battery technology and the continued expansion of charging infrastructure across the country.
According to the report, the growth of advanced manufacturing has been closely linked to China’s broader efforts to promote innovation and technological progress across key industries.
Authorities continued implementing policies aimed at strengthening the integration of technological innovation with industrial development.
The report notes that progress was also made in several advanced manufacturing segments, including robotics, integrated circuits and high-end equipment.
These industries have been identified as important pillars of China’s modern industrial system and key drivers of future economic growth.
China has also continued promoting the digital transformation of manufacturing as part of efforts to enhance productivity and improve industrial efficiency.
The adoption of digital technologies, intelligent production systems and automation has helped manufacturers upgrade production processes and strengthen competitiveness.
The report states that emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence and advanced robotics are increasingly being applied across manufacturing industries.
These developments are contributing to the growth of smart manufacturing and supporting the development of new industrial ecosystems.
Authorities have also been promoting the development of strategic emerging industries while encouraging enterprises to strengthen research and development capabilities.
