Where there is no functioning law enforcement, fear disappears from society — and when fear is gone, people no longer hesitate to commit even the most serious crimes. Sadly, this is exactly what seems to be happening in Pakistan today. Crimes that were once unthinkable are now carried out without hesitation or fear of consequences.
A recent and tragic example is the case of Dr. Warda, a medical doctor from Islamabad. Her body was discovered by police along the Thandiani Road, a remote mountainous area. According to the police investigation, Dr. Warda had been missing for four days. It is alleged that she was abducted by her own friend, Rida.
Reports suggest that Dr. Warda had entrusted 67 tolas of gold to Rida for safekeeping. But when she asked for it back, Rida allegedly refused — and instead devised a plan to eliminate her friend. Rida reportedly handed Doctor Warda over to suspects Aurangzeb and Nadeem. They transported her to Lari Binota, where she was murdered. What followed was a heartbreaking reminder of how greed and the absence of fear of the law can push people to the darkest extremes.
Family members and coworkers remain shocked and heartbroken by what happened. Dr. Warda was known as a dedicated and respected doctor, and the news of her tragic death has deeply shaken everyone who knew her. Many of her colleagues from Benazir Shaheed Hospital gathered to offer their condolences and honor her memory.
This incident raises troubling questions about the erosion of trust, even among close professionals. It also brings attention to the crucial responsibility of law enforcement—and institutions like Benazir Shaheed Hospital—in responding to cases that are both emotionally delicate and deeply tragic.
