Senior National Conference leader and Indian parliament member Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan has called upon the leaders of the INDIA bloc to join a peaceful protest outside Parliament on August 5 against the BJP-led Indian government’s unilateral actions in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). Chowdry Ramzan made the appeal during a a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders held in the Chamber of Congress President and Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, in New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, also attended the meeting, where key parliamentary and political issues were discussed.
Ramzan urged the opposition alliance to stand in solidarity with the people of IIOJK and support the demand for the restoration of full statehood to the territory. He reminded the participants that the Modi-led government had repeatedly assured Parliament that statehood would be restored to IIOJK, but the promise remains unfulfilled. He said the peaceful protest will be held at Makar Dawar, one of the ceremonial gates of India’s new Parliament House, to register opposition to New Delhi’s August 5, 2019 actions and reiterate the demand for restoration of statehood.
The INDIA bloc leaders, including Congress, Samajwadi Party, DMK, TMC, CPI, AAP and other constituent parties, expressed solidarity with the people IIOJK and endorsed the concerns raised by Chowdry Mohammad Ramzan. They also conveyed their willingness to participate in the peaceful protest on 5th August in front of the Parliament and reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding democratic rights and supporting the legitimate demand for the restoration of full statehood to the occupied territory.
