Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Ambassador Asim Iftikhar has said that India used the Pahalgam incident as a pretext to arrest over 2,000 Kashmiris, in an attempt to crush their legitimate struggle for the right to self-determination.
According to Kashmir Media Service, speaking at a UN Security Council briefing, Asim Iftikhar highlighted the worsening human rights situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), citing the discovery of thousands of unmarked and unidentified graves in recent years.
He stated that investigations revealed a disturbing pattern of enforced disappearances, where Indian occupation forces abduct, torture, and execute civilians extra-judicially.
Ambassador Iftikhar stressed the urgent need to resolve the crisis of missing persons and emphasised that conflict prevention and peaceful dispute resolution are essential to addressing these grave human rights violations.
