In a landmark move to enhance professional collaboration, the China Society of Engineers (CSE) and the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) signed here the Mutual Recognition Agreement for Professional Engineers, Gwadar Pro reported on Friday. The signing took place during the Belt and Road Forum on Engineering Capacity Building, a key event of the Second Belt and Road Conference on Science and Technology Exchange.
The agreement establishes a framework for mutual recognition of engineering qualifications between the two countries, aligning with international standards while respecting each nation’s regulatory frameworks. Both sides reached a consensus on the equivalence of competency assessments, evaluation procedures and quality assurance systems, ensuring that professional engineers from China and Pakistan can benefit from streamlined accreditation processes.
The deal is expected to provide a skilled and certified workforce for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and other joint initiatives under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), reinforcing the strong partnership between China and Pakistan in engineering and technological development. During the forum, participants adopted the “Consensus on Belt and Road Engineering Capacity Building”, which emphasizes the importance of skills development, standardization and international collaboration in engineering.
The event brought together more than 160 representatives from six international organizations and 26 national engineering bodies, alongside experts from academia and industry, the report added.
