First transformer installed at Pakistan’s 765kV Mansehra SubstationBreaking

August 28, 2025

The first 220kV main transformer of the 765kV Mansehra Substation has been successfully installed, marking a key milestone in the project’s construction, officials said. The substation, being developed by PowerChina, is Pakistan’s first 765kV and highest-voltage facility to date, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday.

According to project representatives, the installation signifies the near-completion of civil works and sets the stage for subsequent equipment installation. The process combined remote technical guidance from Chinese experts with on-site implementation by local staff, a measure aimed at ensuring safety and precision.

The project team reported that special attention was given to preparation, transportation, and site execution to minimize risks during installation. Scheduled for completion in August 2026, the substation is expected to become a vital hub for clean energy transmission. Authorities say it will help reduce power shortages, strengthen grid reliability, and support regional socioeconomic growth.
