“Jingchu Workshop” launches NEV training to build green transport workforceBreaking

October 15, 2026

The China-Pakistan “Jingchu Workshop” joint project officially commenced its international training programme on new energy vehicle (NEV) technology at Xiangyang Polytechnic University.

Five trainees from Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited are attending the 19-day programme in China, focusing on NEVs and intelligent connected vehicles.

According to Xiangyang Polytechnic University, the programme is designed around the actual development needs of Pakistan’s NEV industry.

It combines systematic theoretical instruction with hands-on training to help participants master core NEV technical principles, basic applications of intelligent connected vehicle functions, and common fault diagnosis and troubleshooting methods.

The aim is to develop a group of local technical specialists who understand the technology, can operate and maintain it, Gwadar Pro reported on Thursday.

The training comes as Pakistan accelerates its transport energy transition. Under the New Energy Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–2030 issued by the Pakistani government, the country aims to raise the share of NEVs in new vehicle sales to 30% by 2030.

It also plans to train 10,000 new energy apprentices through the New Energy Apprenticeship Programme (NEAP) and to build a new energy technical workforce of 5,000 through the New Energy Skills Programme (NESP), for a combined target of directly training at least 15,000 people.

The policy also calls for joint participation by universities, vocational education institutions, provincial governments, the New Energy Vehicles Center (NEVC), and the Engineering Development Board (EDB) to support the development of Pakistan’s domestic NEV industry.

During the training, participants will also visit Chinese companies in emerging industries such as NEVs and the low-altitude economy, which includes drones, electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, and related services.

They will also take part in China-Pakistan cultural exchange activities to deepen their understanding of China’s NEV industrial ecosystem and technology application scenarios.

As the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) enters its phase of upgrading and expansion, and as Dongfeng Motor advances its overseas development strategy, Xiangyang Polytechnic University rooted in Xiangyang and serving Dongfeng has jointly built the “Jingchu Workshop” with Pakistani government departments, universities, and Dongfeng-affiliated companies under the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2025, the project provided NEV teacher training for government departments and schools in Lahore and Rawalpindi.

The project organisers told Gwadar Pro that they will continue to consolidate and deepen China-Pakistan economic cooperation and cultural exchange, train more high-quality technical and skilled professionals in the NEV field, and provide talent support for Pakistan’s green transport development and China-Pakistan cooperation in the automotive sector.
