Pakistan’s Punjab government has intensified its engagement with Chinese technology giant Huawei by exploring advanced artificial intelligence and digital governance solutions aimed at modernising public administration and positioning the province as a regional hub for AI-driven innovation.

Advisor to Punjab Chief Minister on Artificial Intelligence and Special Initiatives Ali Dar visited Huawei’s Lianqiuhu Research and Development Center in Shanghai on Monday afternoon, where senior company executives showcased cutting-edge AI applications designed for government services, digital governance and smart public administration, Gwadar Pro reported on Tuesday.

Huawei Vice President and Chief Solution Architect for Government Public Services and Digitalisation Jianfeng Shen, along with senior executive Peng Wang, briefed the Pakistani delegation on the company’s latest technological innovations and discussed their potential application across Punjab’s governance framework.

The discussions focused on utilising artificial intelligence to improve efficiency, transparency and citizen-centric governance while introducing global best practices that could accelerate Punjab’s digital transformation programme.

Officials from both sides explored opportunities for deeper cooperation in digital governance, data-driven public administration, smart service delivery and AI-enabled decision-making, reflecting growing technological collaboration between Pakistan and China.

Ali Dar said the Punjab government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, was pursuing an ambitious strategy to transform the province into South Asia’s leading artificial intelligence hub by integrating emerging technologies into governance, education and economic development.

He said artificial intelligence had the potential to revolutionise public administration by making government services faster, more transparent, accountable and responsive to citizens’ needs.
