Pakistani officials and experts have welcomed the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Foreign Ministers’ Conference held in Tianjin, China, describing it as a critical moment for promoting regional cohesion, dialogue, and multilateral cooperation. They view the forum as a much-needed platform to reduce tensions, foster diplomacy, and strengthen economic and strategic partnerships across South and Central Asia—especially as geopolitical uncertainty intensifies globally.

In an exclusive interview today the Ambasssor of Pakistan to Iran, Mudassir Tipu, praised the recent SCO Foreign Ministers meeting, calling it a timely and strategic platform for strengthening regional cooperation, peace, and connectivity. In his comments, Ambassador Tipu highlighted the SCO as a vital mechanism for fostering multilateral dialogue, resolving political tensions, and advancing shared economic goals among member states.

He noted that the conference reaffirmed China’s constructive leadership in promoting a rules-based, multipolar regional order, where countries like Pakistan, Iran, Russia, and the Central Asian republics can engage on equal footing. Ambassador Tipu emphasized that the SCO’s growing influence reflects the collective desire of the Global South to move towards inclusive, cooperative diplomacy.

On the economic front, he underscored the importance of regional connectivity, particularly through initiatives like the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and its potential linkages with Iranian and Central Asian transit networks. He expressed optimism that SCO-led infrastructure and energy cooperation would pave the way for greater trade, investment, and integration across Eurasia.

Calling the Tianjin meeting a “cornerstone for future regional harmony,” Tipu stressed that Pakistan is fully committed to the SCO’s vision of shared prosperity, mutual respect, and strategic coordination especially in areas such as energy, digital development, counterterrorism, and climate resilience.

According to him, the outcomes of the conference will have a lasting impact on regional stability, strengthening Pakistan-Iran cooperation while also opening new avenues for collaboration with SCO member states. The experts in Pakistan have also supported President Xi’s appeal for the SCO to lead the Global South in reshaping international institutions and promoting economic globalization that is inclusive and fair.

They described the foreign ministers’ joint meeting with President Xi as a rare but powerful display of regional diplomacy signaling that true unity will come not through dominance, but through mutual respect and equal partnership. With China setting the tone for cooperation and regional integration, the Tianjin conference is seen by Pakistani officials and experts as a strong message in favor of peace, stability, and shared prosperity across Eurasia and the Global South.
