The Lahore High Court (LHC) has summoned Punjab Inspector General Dr. Usman Anwar and Advocate General Punjab on Friday (tomorrow) regarding the harassment of students in educational institutions. During the hearing of the harassment on campuses case, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Aalia Neelum questioned the Punjab Inspector General, Dr. Usman Anwar, and remarked on why the IGP failed to prevent pictures and videos of a female student from going viral. The LHC Chief Justice remarked, “The girl’s life has been destroyed. The IG should explain why the video was not stopped from spreading.” The Chief Justice further questioned whether the Punjab IG was so uninformed that he allowed the pictures and video to circulate. She also highlighted that the Anti-Rape Act does not permit the publication of a victim's name.
A counsel argued that the news of the alleged rape of a female student at a private college caused damage to the property. The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has formed a 7-member committee to investigate the unconfirmed case of the alleged rape of a female student at a private college. On behalf of the private college administration, FI lodged a case against 36 individuals for running a social media campaign, with the case registered in the FIA Cybercrime Circle. Additionally, several social media accounts are under investigation. The involvement of others will be determined during the ongoing investigation. The case, No. 168/24, was registered by the college administration.
