A joint sitting of Parliament approved by majority the presidential order imposing emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The joint sitting, chaired by National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, began with prayers and Fateha for the children who died in the tragic collapse of a private school roof in Peshawar’s Dir Colony. During the session, Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry presented the presidential order for the imposition of emergency and Governor’s Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for approval.

The motion received 214 votes in favour and 56 against, and was thus approved by a majority. It was reported that opposition members also staged strong protests during the voting process. In view of the opposition’s protest, the National Assembly speaker ordered a headcount. On the occasion, PTI leader Barrister Gohar said that upholding the Constitution inside the House and performing their duties without fear or pressure was their foremost responsibility.
