The police foiled an attempt to smuggle narcotics from the tribal district, Orakzai to and seized a large quantity of drugs and arresting a suspect, the police said on Tuesday.  The operation was carried out in the Kohat district as part of an ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, they added.  A police spokesperson said officers acting on intelligence set up a checkpoint under the supervision of Station House Officer, Asif Hayat in the Darra Adam Khel area. 

During a search of a suspicious vehicle, the police recovered hashish 1 Kg and methamphetamine 1 Kg, commonly known as “ice”, hidden inside secret compartments of the car. The driver, identified as Shafiq, a resident of Kachai Pakka area in Kohat, was arrested at the scene. 

The police said a case had been registered against the accused and further investigation had been launched.  District Police Officer Shahbaz Elahi said operations against drug traffickers would continue across the district as authorities seek to curb the spread of narcotics and dismantle wider smuggling networks.
