Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed provision of the bulletproof vests and vehicles to police personnel as part of a major security overhaul. The directives follow a review meeting on law and order, chaired by Maryam Nawaz, which also focused on preparations for Eid Milad-un-Nabi celebrations. During the meeting, Maryam emphasized the need for foolproof security arrangements and instructed police officers to engage with local clerics for enhanced coordination. A proposal to increase the number of provincial border posts was discussed, and Nawaz approved an immediate allocation of bulletproof vehicles and vests for the police. Additionally, a grant of one billion rupees for the police force was sanctioned.
The Chief Minister also called for specialized training for officers stationed at border posts, further fortification of border security check posts, and an intensified campaign against illegal arms. A decision was made to impose a ban on the use of social media by on-duty police officers. She underscored the government's commitment to ensuring public safety, promising decisive action against criminals and anti-social elements. She urged the police to develop the capability to act proactively rather than waiting for crimes to occur. Emphasizing a strong response to attacks on police check posts, she called for increased patrolling between posts to deter future incidents.
