Sudan gold mine collapse kills 50 miners Breaking

June 30, 2025

A tragic mining disaster has struck Sudan’s River Nile State, where the collapse of a gold mine has claimed at least 50 lives, with more miners feared trapped under the debris. The accident occurred as workers were deep inside the mine when its structure gave way, burying dozens alive.Authorities report that several individuals are still trapped beneath the rubble, and a rescue operation is underway. However, efforts are being severely hampered by the lack of professional rescue teams and proper equipment in the remote area.

Local media highlighted the delayed response, citing Sudan’s limited emergency resources and insufficient safety protocols in unregulated mining sites as key factors behind the scale of the tragedy. Sudan, despite its rich gold reserves, has long struggled with unsafe and informal mining practices, especially in economically struggling regions like the River Nile State. Emergency responders and volunteers continue their desperate search for survivors as the death toll is expected to rise.
