The government saved Rs9.9 billion through cost rationalization of development projects during July–January FY2025-26, according to the Monthly Development Update released by the Ministry of Planning, Development and Special Initiatives.

The report states that development proposals submitted by federal ministries, divisions and provincial governments were examined in detail to ensure that national resources are utilized efficiently and in accordance with development priorities.

According to the report, the cost rationalization process is part of the government’s efforts to improve the allocation of limited national resources and ensure that development funds are directed toward priority initiatives.

During January 2026 alone, savings of Rs4,415.15 million were achieved through the review and rationalization of development projects.

These savings increased the cumulative amount saved through cost rationalization to Rs9.9 billion during the period from July 2025 to January 2026.

The Planning Ministry’s report notes that development projects submitted for approval are carefully reviewed to assess their financial requirements and implementation plans.

This review process allows authorities to identify areas where project costs can be adjusted or optimized without affecting the intended objectives of the development initiatives.

According to the report, cost rationalization contributes to improving the overall efficiency of public investment and supports the effective utilization of development resources.

The report highlights that the examination of development proposals by the Planning Ministry helps ensure that projects align with national priorities and that financial resources are used in a results-focused manner.

The rationalization process is applied to development projects submitted by federal ministries and divisions as well as provincial governments.

According to the Monthly Development Update, the cost rationalization exercise reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening financial discipline and improving the effectiveness of development spending.

The report notes that these savings are achieved through detailed scrutiny of project proposals and financial plans during the development approval process.

The Planning Ministry’s update presents cost rationalization as part of broader efforts to ensure efficient use of public resources within the country’s development program.
