The China-Pakistan Neurosurgery Forum was held at the Zhongshan (Central South) Hospital of Wuhan University, marking the launch of the first phase of the Luojia Medical International Forum hosted by the hospital.
The hybrid event brought together more than 35 neurosurgeons, medical scholars, hospital administrators and international students from both countries who engaged in substantive discussions both online and offline, Gwadar Pro reported on Monday.
The forum focused on deepening collaboration in clinical practice, joint medical training, scientific research and advancing the vision of the China-Pakistan health corridor.
In his keynote speech, Dr. Muhammad Shahbaz, President of the China-Pakistan Medical Association, delivered a presentation titled “China-Pakistan Health Corridor: Opportunities, Challenges and Future Perspectives.”
He provided an analysis of the current healthcare landscape in Pakistan, reviewed the ongoing collaborative healthcare initiatives between the two countries and proposed actionable measures to further integrate the healthcare system and enhance cross-border health cooperation.
Joining the forum from Lahore in a virtual session, Professor Azam Niaz, Chairman Department of Neurosurgery, King Edward Medical University, provided a comprehensive overview of the development of neurosurgery in Pakistan.
He outlined existing clinical capabilities, discussed challenges faced by local institutions and reaffirmed his strong commitment to fostering closer ties with his Chinese medical counterparts.
Professor Niaz highlighted the need to expand training and research opportunities in China for Pakistani neurosurgeons, as well as to strengthen cooperative mechanisms for managing complex neurosurgical cases.
The session was also addressed by Professor Chen Jincao, head of the neurosurgery department at the Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University.
In his remarks, Professor Chen highlighted the importance of sustained academic exchanges and long-term partnerships in elevating neurosurgical standards and healthcare outcomes in both countries.
The forum also featured professional insights and presentations from other senior hospital leaders, including Professor Hou Zuoyong and additional medical experts, who shared their expertise and perspectives on bilateral medical collaboration.
