The Met Office on Tuesday forecast the onset of the monsoon season in Pakistan from tomorrow on June 25.It said that torrential rains were expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) from June 24 to July 2, while rains were also expected in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, Murree, Galyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore and Faisalabad between June 25 and July 1.Similarly, it added, rains were likely in Swat, Mansehra, Kohistan,Waziristan, Bannu and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during the aforementioned period.
The Met Office also predicted showers for Kalat, Khuzdar, Loralai and Zhob in Balochistan from June 26 to June 28. Regarding Sindh, it said that thundershowers were expected in Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas and Badin from June 25 to June 28.
The Met Office warned that heavy rains could result in floods in streams and nullahs. It also warned of landslides in the mountainous areas. It urged passengers and tourists to remain careful by avoiding unnecessary travel during the rains. It also issued an alert for the concerned departments, asking them to take steps in order to deal with any emergency.
