PM&DC brings medical community together to build sustainable CME/CPD systemتازترین

The Pakistan Medical & Dental Council (PM&DC) on Thursday commenced a three-day National CME/CPD Capacity- Building Workshop, “Designing High-Impact CME / CPD: From Concept to Completion,” being held from 27 to 29 August 2026 in Islamabad. Chaired by President PM&DC Prof Dr Rizwan Taj, the workshop brings together institutional leaders, medical educationists, faculty members and representatives of medical and dental institutions from across Pakistan. The workshop was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Lt. Gen.

Wasim Alamgir, Vice Chancellor, National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Rawalpindi. In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Rizwan Taj emphasised that lifelong learning is essential for maintaining professional competence and ensuring high standards of patient care. He stated that PM&DC is committed to developing a credible, practical, transparent and sustainable national CME / CPD system that enables doctors and dentists to continuously update their knowledge, enhance their skills and improve professional practice.

The President highlighted that the initiative is not intended merely to introduce another regulatory requirement, but to foster a genuine culture of continuous learning and professional development. He underscored the importance of collaboration among PM&DC, universities, medical and dental institutions, professional bodies, healthcare organization and practitioners in establishing a nationally regulated and quality-assured system.

The Chief guest appreciated PM&DC’s initiative and highlighted the importance of continuous professional development in keeping healthcare professionals abreast of advances in medical science, technology and clinical practice, ultimately contributing to improved patient care. The workshop focuses on the complete CME / CPD cycle, including identification of professional practice gaps and educational needs, measurable learning objectives, educational design, integrity and independence, evaluation of outcomes, governance, documentation, monitoring and quality assurance.
