The Youth’s Voice in Power: Zohran Mamdani and the Future of New YorkBreaking

November 06, 2025

Zohran Mamdani was born in Kampala, Uganda, and moved to New York when he was just seven years old. After completing his education at the Bronx High School of Science, he pursued Africana Studies at Bowdoin College. During his time there, he played a key role in founding the college’s chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine.

Zohran Mamdani’s identity has never fit neatly into one box. Being Indian by heritage, African by birth, and American by upbringing, he has often faced scrutiny and accusations because of this unique mix. "We know that to stand in public as a Muslim is also to sacrifice the safety that we can sometimes find in the shadows," he said at a rally. Yet, Zohran Mamdani stands out as a bold and fearless individual. He has never been afraid to do what he feels is right. He speaks the truth and stands unwaveringly for justice — a quality that’s rare in today’s world.

Mamdani’s critics argued that he was too young to become the mayor of such a large city. But his victory proved otherwise — it was driven by the passion of young followers who believed in him. Mamdani ran on a campaign that target affordability, aiming to make the nation’s most expensive city affordable for ordinary people.

Trump has often portrayed him as a radical figure, labelling him a communist — a description Mamdani has consistently denied. The president has even gone so far as to threaten withholding federal funding if Mamdani were to lead the administration. But In today’s world, the younger generation isn’t afraid to demand their rights. Unlike past generations who spent their lives in silence and struggle, today’s youth want to live boldly — like lions, unafraid and free, and they saw all these qualities in Mamdani.  "Let City Hall, with our compassion, our conviction and our clarity, be the light that our city and our nation so desperately need," Mamdani said on the week he was elected. After his remarkable victory, Mamdani responded to President Trump with great courage and addressed him directly saying "Donald Trump, since I know you're watching, I have four words for you: Turn the volume up. To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us."

Mamdani’s bravery doesn’t stop here. When he speaks for justice, his voice carries the power of someone who’s ready to prove to the entire world what it means to fight for what’s right. In support of Gaza, he stated that, he believes Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. He added that he refuses to support any state that divides its citizens through a hierarchy rooted in religion or discrimination of any kind.

Mamdani has made it clear that antisemitism has no place in New York City, emphasizing that justice and equality must extend to all communities.
