The skies are not clearing yet. Following showers in Lahore and other parts of the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast more rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next 24 hours keeping residents on alert.

Lahore experienced rain on Wednesday night and Thursday morning and showers were reported from various parts of the city. The affected areas included Garhi Shahu, Dharampura, Mughalpura, Harbanspura, Lal Pul and Fatehgarh.

Muslim Town, Ichhra, Jain Mandir, Choburji and Multan Road also received rain while Model Town, Green Town, Kot Lakhpat and Nishtar also received showers. Rainfall intensity differed from place to place, some localities receiving light showers, others heavier rain.

The PMD has forecasted partly cloudy weather in Lahore with a maximum temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 22 degrees Celsius. Humidity may remain high at around 92 per cent and winds may blow at about 10 kilometres per hour, creating conditions conducive for further showers.

The wet spell is not just for Lahore. The Met Office has predicted rain and thunderstorms with isolated heavy falls in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Islamabad.

Authorities have advised people to take care, particularly in the event of thunderstorms and heavy rain. Rainfall in large amounts over a short period could make underpasses, low-lying roads, rivers, and streams hazardous.

Commuters and residents are advised to continue monitoring official weather updates as the weather system is likely to continue affecting northern areas until September 18.

For now, the weather department’s message is clear: the rain is not over yet and another wet spell could be on the horizon.
