August 15, 2022

Scotland police launched on Sunday an investigation against a report of an online threat made to Harry Potter author JK Rowling on Twitter after she tweeted condemning the stabbing of fellow author Salman Rushdie. Rowling had taken to Twitter on Friday and written in response to the news of Rushdie’s stabbing, “Feeling very sick right now. Let him be ok.” In response, a user said “don’t worry you are next.” The author then shared screenshots of the threat on her profile and wrote, “to all sending supportive messages: thank you police are involved (were already involved on other threats).” According to CNN, a spokeswoman for Scotland’s police said, “We have received a report of an online threat being made and officers are carrying out enquiries.

” The account that threatened Rowling was of a man who had Karachi, Pakistan in his bio and the handle MeerAsifAziz1 who had been very vocal in support of the person who stabbed Rushdie. His account has been suspended ever since his threatening tweet. Rushdie, 75, was all set to deliver a lecture on Friday in western New York when a man rushed onto the stage and stabbed him in the neck and torso. The author has written books Midnight’s Children, Shalimar the Clown, and the very controversial The Satanic Verses, which resulted in severe backlash and forced him into hiding. He was on the ventilator and unable to speak as of Friday evening, however, he is now stable and on the road to recovery.
