The Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Pakistan’s National Highway Authority (NHA) signed an agreement to develop two sections of the M-6 Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model
ADB Country Director for Pakistan Emma Fan and Member PPP NHA Ijaz Ahmed signed the agreement, witnessed by Member Planning NHA Dr. Shafeeq Ahmad, Syed Hussain Haider, ADB Deputy Country Director and Mohammed Azim Hashimi, Director, Advisory Division 1, OMDP ADB, according to a Gwadar Pro's report.
The project will connect the missing link in Pakistan’s North-South high speed road connectivity, streamline logistics, reduce travel time, and strengthen trade flows across the country.
“ADB will provide advisory support covering project feasibility studies, developing a bankable PPP structure facilitating transparent procurement processes to attract private sector expertise, achieving commercial and financial closure,” read an official statement of ADB.
The project includes building a 120km six-lane motorway with modern tolling, traffic management, and safety systems starting from Hyderabad.
It’s a critical step toward completing the Peshawar-Karachi Motorway corridor.
The Hyderabad-Sukkur Motorway represents the last missing link in Pakistan’s north-south motorway network, and its completion is expected to significantly cut travel time across Sindh while improving freight movement between Gwadar Port, Karachi Port, and key inland industrial hubs.
The multibillion-rupee project is a critical component of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor’s transport and logistics framework, supporting Pakistan’s broader ambition to position itself as a regional trade and transit corridor connecting South Asia, Central Asia, and western China.
