April 18, 2023

At the United Nations, Pakistan said that climate change has adversely affected its agricultural production turning it from food self-sufficient into a deficient one. Addressing a UN event organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization in New York, Ambassador Munir Akram said Pakistan suffered one of the worst climate crises last year, a spring heat-wave shriveled harvests followed by unprecedented summer floods drowning the crops. He said the floods inundated 4.4 million acres of crops. Akram said People are suffering from exogenous shocks, yet they are not being able to gain access to support from the international system, highlighting the fact that there is something wrong with the system that we must seek to correct.
