Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Pakistan’s first fully electric sweeper truck to help eliminate environmental pollution and improve modern service delivery. The technology will be used to clean and wash roads in an environmentally friendly manner. According to details, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif personally inspected the fully electric sweeper truck and reviewed its performance during the inauguration ceremony. Relevant officials and experts briefed the chief minister on the various functions, operations and technical features of Pakistan’s first fully electric sweeper project.
The briefing revealed that the electric mechanical sweeper truck would initially be used to clean and wash the Lahore Ring Road. Its key innovation is that, besides removing dust and waste from roads, the fully electric sweeper and broomer can, for the first time in Pakistan, absorb standing water and leave the area completely dry and clean. Technical details of the project showed that the advanced electric sweeper truck can continuously perform cleaning and washing operations for up to 70 kilometres on a single full charge. Its durable battery and fast-charging capability will make it possible to clean major city roads more efficiently in less time.
Officials said the use of the fully electric sweeper would result in zero carbon emissions, helping control smog and environmental pollution in Punjab, particularly Lahore. Unlike conventional diesel- and petrol-powered vehicles, the electric truck will keep the air free from smoke and toxic gases. It was further stated that, equipped with modern electric technology, the sweeper cleans road dust quietly without stirring it up, significantly reducing dust pollution. Moreover, the truck does not produce the noise associated with conventional machinery, helping reduce noise pollution and make the city’s environment more peaceful.
