Nawabshah faces intense heatwave as city’s historic temperature records highlight extreme climate.Nawabshah is once again experiencing extreme heat, with temperatures soaring to dangerous levels of 47 degree Celsius on Thursday during the ongoing summer spell. Meteorological observations indicate that temperatures in late May and June frequently exceed 45°C, placing the city among the hottest regions in Pakistan. The current heatwave reflects a long-standing pattern of extreme temperatures in Nawabshah.
Historically, the city has recorded some of the highest temperatures not only in Pakistan but globally. On April 30, 2018, Nawabshah registered a temperature of 50.2°C, which was reported as the highest temperature ever recorded in the world for the month of April. Climate experts note that this reading was part of an intense regional heatwave and is considered one of the most significant temperature records in modern meteorological history.
In addition, during the severe heatwave of May 2010, temperatures in Nawabshah climbed to approximately 52°C, further cementing the city’s reputation as one of the hottest places in the country. Nawabshah’s climate is classified as hot desert, where temperatures regularly surpass 45°C in peak summer, and in some years even cross the 50°C mark. Experts attribute the increasing frequency and intensity of such heatwaves to broader climate change trends affecting South Asia.
Rising temperatures, prolonged dry conditions, and shifting weather patterns are contributing to more frequent extreme heat events across the region. Authorities have advised residents to take precautionary measures, including avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, staying hydrated, and minimizing outdoor activities to reduce the risk of heat-related illnesses.
