The Punjab government planned to buy one million metric tons of wheat from PASSCO.According to documents, the purchase of 1 million metric tons of wheat will cost Rs103.75 billion. The finance department raised objections to the proposal to buy wheat at once.The finance department sought complete details of supply and demand and existing reserves.

According to documents, 1.97 million metric tons of wheat already available in the provincial supply chain.The finance department instructed to clarify the age, quality and shelf life of wheat of PASSCO. Only essential quantity will be purchased from PASSCO at each stage, the finance department instructed.

The finance department directed to renegotiate the price and availability with federal ministry of food security. Wheat will be purchased in Punjab at the rate of Rs4,150 per 40 kg. The food department will release 5,000 metric tons of wheat daily. According to food department, about 1.3 million metric tons of wheat will be required by March 2027. Wheat flour mills will be issued Rs3,800 per 40 kg.
