“Enough Is Enough?” PTI Takes Imran Khan’s Battle to Supreme Court After Growing Frustration With IHCBreaking

May 21, 2026

The political crisis in Pakistan continues to intensify as Imran Khan and his party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, finds itself in the eye of yet another legal and political storm.

PTI has now approached the Supreme Court after expressing serious disappointment with the Islamabad High Court in hopes of getting what it calls “real relief” for the jailed former prime minister, who has remained behind bars for nearly three years.

The move comes at a time when tensions between PTI and state institutions seem to be escalating day by day.

Salman Akram Raja Meets Chief Justice

In a significant development, PTI General Secretary Salman Akram Raja met Chief Justice of Pakistan Yahya Afridi and urged him to ensure early hearing of cases related to Imran Khan.

Speaking to the media after the meeting Raja said the discussion was “positive” and quoted the Chief Justice as saying cases pertaining to Imran would likely be listed soon after Eid.

The statement immediately drew reactions in political circles and social media, with PTI supporters describing it as a “small but important breakthrough”.

Imran Khan’s health turns another big concern

Concerns over Imran Khan’s health meanwhile, continue to mount.

His legal team has filed a plea in the Supreme Court seeking permission for his transfer to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad. The petition also asks for access to his personal doctors, family and legal team and for his medical records to be released to his family.

Meanwhile, Imran’s sister Uzma Khan has challenged in the IHC order denying these facilities.

This is not just a political issue for PTI supporters, they see it as a humanitarian issue.

LAWYERS MARCH ON CONSTITUTIONAL AVENUE

About 100 lawyers associated with the Insaf Lawyers Forum staged protests on Constitution Avenue before Salman Akram Raja met the Chief Justice.

The march, organised by ILF Chief Organiser Intezar Panjutha, was to put pressure on institutions to take action on the legal matters pending against Imran Khan.

A lot of PTI lawyers believe the protest made enough noise to get a reaction from the top judiciary.

And maybe, for the first time in weeks, PTI feels its voice has been heard at last.

More Legal Battle Ahead?

There are reports that PTI may also challenge the IHC verdict in the £190 million case in the Supreme Court soon — a case that continues to be one of the biggest legal threats for Imran Khan.

But political analysts say the situation is far more complex than simply courtroom proceedings.

Some believe that the restrictions on Imran Khan’s meetings and communication will be eased only if he does not openly criticize the security establishment while talking to visitors and family members.

If true, the debate becomes much bigger than politics.

It is a question of freedom of speech, political pressure and the limits of dissent in Pakistan.

A Nation Still Divided

Love him or hate him, one thing cannot be ignored:

Imran Khan is the most discussed political figure in Pakistan.

His statements still fill the headlines from jail, his cases fuel political conversations and his supporters continue to mobilize across the country.

But the more pertinent question is:

Is Pakistan heading towards political reconciliation — or deeper confrontation?

As PTI once again comes knocking at the doors of the Supreme Court, millions are watching keenly.

For in Pakistan, courts are no longer just places of legal combat.

They have become the fighting grounds for the future of the country’s politics.
