In Pakistan, people tend to be more critical than appreciative. While our media and celebrities are loved, followed, and praised for their talent, they are equally subjected to scrutiny and criticism.
The recent Lux Style Awards saw participation from many of Pakistan’s talented actresses, who were recognized and honored for their exceptional performances. However, the public’s attention seemed to shift from their achievements to their outfits, leading to widespread disappointment and debate.
Hania Amir, for instance, faced heavy criticism for her choice of dress, while Naeema Butt did not receive particularly positive feedback either. Saboor Ali’s outfit became the subject of ridicule, with some commenting that it was so tight it appeared to be tearing at the sides. Mashal Ali also disappointed many viewers with her styling choices.

On the other hand, Mawra Hocane and Hiba Bukhari’s dresses were widely appreciated. Fans praised them for respecting cultural values while still looking elegant, which resonated positively with the audience.

Yumna Zaidi, who has long been admired for her thoughtful and modest fashion choices, also faced disappointment this year. Many fans commented on how she has always been careful with her wardrobe, ensuring that her outfits never hurt her audience’s sensibilities. One viewer even remarked, “Slowly, her dressing sense is deteriorating,” reflecting the growing concern among her followers.

This incident highlights how, in Pakistan, celebrities’ fashion choices are often judged as harshly as, if not more than, their professional achievements
