Pakistan has invited Chinese companies to invest in modern slaughterhouses and meat processing facilities as part of efforts to expand halal meat exports to China, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain said.
Speaking at a high-level meeting with a visiting Chinese delegation in Islamabad, the minister said Pakistan’s large livestock population, strategic location and growing capacity to produce high-quality halal meat position the country as a strong partner for meeting China’s increasing demand for imported meat.
According to a Gwadar Pro's report, he encouraged Chinese investors to establish state-of-the-art slaughterhouses and meat processing plants equipped with modern technology, international hygiene standards, cold-chain infrastructure and traceability systems to facilitate exports to China and other global markets.
Rana Tanveer said the livestock sector is a key pillar of Pakistan’s agricultural economy, contributing to value addition, rural employment and national economic growth.
He noted that investment in modern meat processing would help increase exports, create jobs, improve food safety and quality, and raise incomes for livestock farmers.
The minister said the government is committed to providing a business-friendly environment, policy support and investment facilitation for foreign investors in the agriculture and livestock sectors.
Members of the Chinese delegation expressed interest in cooperating with Pakistan on meat processing, technology transfer, quality assurance and export-oriented infrastructure development.
Both sides agreed to strengthen technical cooperation, promote business-to-business linkages and work together to meet regulatory and sanitary requirements necessary for expanding meat exports.
