Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah has said that the state holds the status of a mother and that derogatory remarks against it are condemnable, urging political leaders to exercise caution when speaking about state institutions and martyrs. Speaking in the Senate, Sanaullah said Maulana Fazlur Rehman, Maulana Atta-ur-Rehman and Senator Kamran Murtaza were respected figures. However, he maintained that recent statements by Maulana Fazlur Rehman had hurt public sentiments and that remarks concerning the state and martyrs should be made responsibly.
Referring to Senator Kamran Murtaza’s remarks, Sanaullah said personal grievances should not be allowed to override collective interests. He added that statements directed at the state were unacceptable given its status as a mother. Discussing matters related to Noreen Niazi, the prime minister’s adviser said the issues had been placed before the Supreme Court. He stated that the facilities provided to her in jail had been communicated to the court by her lawyer and that the reports submitted to the court were consistent with the information provided to him.
Sanaullah further claimed that Niazi had been detained for allegedly misleading people and attempting to create unrest in Islamabad. He said she was shifted to hospital promptly when her health deteriorated and was provided with medical treatment, adding that her medical reports had returned positive. He urged Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to approach the courts for relief in the matter.
