The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to award its party ticket to senior leader and former minister of state Abid Sher Ali for the Senate seat left vacant following the death of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, party sources confirmed on Thursday. According to the sources, Abid Sher Ali is set to submit his nomination papers tomorrow for the by-election to fill the vacant seat.

The decision comes as part of the party’s internal consultations aimed at retaining experienced leadership in the Upper House of Parliament. The Senate seat fell vacant earlier this week after the passing of Senator Irfan Siddiqui, a respected legislator and veteran columnist whose death created a void in parliamentary ranks.

Party insiders say the PML-N leadership has finalized Abid Sher Ali’s name in view of his political experience and longstanding association with the party.  The Election Commission is expected to announce the schedule for the by-election soon.
